This state of our country has been a time for reflection. At first, I allowed all the things I was taking in to cause my spirit to feel anxious and weak. My soul was at a point of absolute unrest. I was tired, weary, and emotionally overwhelmed.
God gave me this picture of humanity through Genesis. At the beginning of Genesis, God is setting up the basic storyline of the people in the bible. Time and time again they rebel, revert, and allow hatred and anger to consume them. The city and towns are in an utter state of chaos. God is lamenting over the state of his people.
Then rises Abraham. Abraham is not this eloquent prophet or person of influence. He’s not a king or pharaoh. He not this person with a huge platform or following. Abraham is an average man that God anointed to do the unexpected. Abraham is a picture of us as Christ-followers. He chases Jesus but throughout Abraham’s life he continuously makes mistakes, falls and God picks him back up. He lies, deceives, and falls into emotion. God shows him grace. He has Abraham raise his eyes to the stars giving him a glimpse of his descendants. This a pictorial representation of the magnitude of his impact on humanity. God used Abraham to create a new source of life for humanity.
The world is broken and in chaos. It’s hurting and people are falling into emotion and pain. The enemy is stirring and creating a state of pure division and anger. We are to be like Abraham chasing and leading those to follow Jesus. We will make mistakes, fall into fear and emotion but God will give you the strength to persevere. He will give the voice to pray over injustice. The strength to stand for peace and unity. The courage to show what it means to love your neighbor. The wisdom to walk in his truth and word. The power to stand in the gap for a country that has lost its way. The boldness to shout that he is Lord, and through him, we can heal a broken, weary, and hurt world.
